Hi band mates,


This is our November schedule. As you can see, we are left with 3 MORE WEEKS before band practice resumes!!! I hope that you are managing your time well , and I hope that you are able to practice playing your instruments at least two times a week.


If you are unable to cope, here is a suggested schedule for daily individual practice:


Week one:

Physical warm up(5min-10min)- Breathing Exercise

- Upper body warm up Exercise

(You may choose to close your eyes while doing these physical warm up exercise.)

*To train your stamina, go for a jog/run. Run for at least 800m for Week one.


Basic Training:(Choose at least 3 for every practice)


Long note exercise(*with metronome. If you don't have any, look at the clock. Follow every second the clock ticks. This is taken as a given pulse.)

-in different scales

-make sure that the value of every note is not shortchanged

-take in deep breath

-*do your best!


Long note exercise with crescendo and decrescendo

-make sure that the loudness of every note increases/decreases evenly

-take in sufficient air

-CONCENTRATE! FOCUS!

-*do your best!


Long note exercise with effects(e.g sfzpetc.)

-make sure that you or your audience(e.g your mum, or your neighbour) are able to hear the difference in the loudness of each note

-RICHNESS?


Scale Exercise

-NO BRAKES OR BREAKS IN BETWEEN EACH NOTE

-Slur

-Smooth


Scale exercises with different rhythms(e.g triplets, semi-quaver, quaver)

-tonguing

-constant playing

-keep up with the tempo given


Articulation exercise(e.g accent, staccato, tenuto, marcato)

-make sure that you are able to hear the difference in the 'texture' of every articulation you are playing

-constant air speed

-have you taken in sufficient air?


Chromatic Scale(You do not have to start the scale in concert Bb major, start from any note to challenge yourself)

-fingering

-tone

-enough air?

-Increase the tempo to challenge yourself


Musical Pieces:

Jerico- revise from beginning to part F

- Pay attention to the parts that you are unable to play well


Singapura Medley-Pay attention to the parts that you are unsure of

-The whole piece if you are able to


Small ensemble pieces-Please arrange with your SLs if you are unable to plan well


Week 2

-Physical warm up exercise
-At least 3 basic training exercise


-Musical pieces:

Jerico- Revise from part G to part M

-Revise the parts that you are unsure of


Japanese piece-Figure out all the fingerings first

-Next, figure out the rhythm

-Dynamics, tempo given

-Once you are able to understand the piece, think of how you are to express your feelings while playing this piece


Small ensemble pieces-be more confident in your playing


Week 3

Jerico-Revise from part M to the end

-Unsure parts


Japanese piece-Revise the parts that you find it difficult


Fairy tale and March Blue Sky-Revise the parts that you are unsure of


Small Ensemble-Confidence?


I hope that you are able to improve yourself. If you are responsible for your own learning, I believe that you will try your best to do things. All the best for EYE!
